Invincible director Ericson Core has signed on to helm
XXX: The Return of Xander Cage. It willl be the third installment in the series that once claimed to be James Bond for the 21st century when in actually fact James Bond turned out to be the James Bond for the 21st century.The new XXX is being produced by Neil Moritz and Joe Roth, and was written by John Brancato and Michael Ferris (
Terminator Salvation), with the script recently being “polished” by Richard Wilkes, writer of the original.
Vin Diesel is reprising the role of Xander Cage (as the title suggest) replacing raptor Ice Cube who played a different character in the second film. Out of these two cultured thesps I definitely prefer Diesel as XXX, lets face it, Mr Cube is a bit too portly to play an action hero.
XXX 3 will see Cage return to the National Security Agency after an eight-year hiatus, an eight years in which Diesel was starring in contemporary classics such as
The Chronicles of Riddick,
Babylon A.D and
The Pacifier. Despite my snide sarcasm the original XXX made a healthy $280 million. But that was when Diesel was an A list action hero at the start of the decade. How the third installment will fare now he's dropped a couple of letters down that list will be interesting to see. Well not
that interesting.
