Funny People director and comedy-producing titan Judd Apatow sat down with the folks at Empire Magazine and opened up on the status of a sequel to Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Apatow had reassuring words about the likelihood of the project:
They’re making a movie now, Will [Ferrell] and Adam [McKay]. But I guess it’s a little bit more a possibility than it was a year ago, when it wasn’t being discussed at all.
When we made Anchorman, Adam and Will had a lot of ideas about what the sequel would be – they’d always laugh about where they’d take the characters.
The great thing is, Will can be any age and play that character. Those anchormen sometimes have their jobs until they’re 75 years old. So we would always laugh that this movie could work if everybody’s really elderly.
Seeing Ferrell return to the iconic character - yes,
iconic character - that he created in Ron Burgundy is an exciting prospect. Seeing the character at the tail end of his life, providing completely new territory for the creative team to explore, is more exciting still. Hopefully this happens, and happens fast. In the meanwhile, watch the following music video over and over.
