He's been around for a while but after his hilllarious performance in The Hangover
earlier this year Zach Galfianakis's film career is really taking off. As well as the sequel to The Hangover
and numerous other projects he is also in negotiations to star in It's Kind of a Funny Story
for Wayfare Entertainment, Focus Features and Misher Films. Its's a coming of age drama/ comedy based on Ned Vizzini's young-adult novel and tells of a teenage boy who, after a bout of depression, is sent to a mental institution, where he ends up in the adult ward and meets a number of offbeat adults as well as a quirky teenage girl. Think Juno
crossed with One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
The young, depressed individual is yet to be cast and Galifianakis would play one of the main adult roles (obviously) while Emma Roberts stars as the teenage love interest. The film is set to be written and directed by the team behind Half Nelson
and baseball drama Sugar
, writer-directors Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden. Shooting will begin later this year.
