The
Scream 2009 awards ceremony, where fans get a chance to honour their favourite films and TV shows of the year, took place last Saturday at the Greek Theatre. The point of the ceremony is to honour the genres traditionally ignored by the more stuffy awards shows, such as horror, sci-fi, fantasy and comic adaptations. The event won't actually air until October 27th on Spike TV in the US, but we have a sneak peek at the big winners of the night.
Biggest winner of the night, unsuprisingly, was
Twilight with four awards for Best Fantasy Film, Best Fantasy Actor for both Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart and Breakout Performance for co-star Taylor Lautner.
Above: I still don't get this. It's a movie about women being subservient!Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen collected a baffling three awards proving that there really is no accounting for taste. The gongs were Best Special Effects, Breakout Performance for Isabel Lucas (Alice - the shapeshifting humanoid robot tiger thing that seduces Shia LeBouf) and Best Actress for Megan Fox. Anyone remember her actually acting in that? All I can remember is:
Above: Acting, apparently.Star Trek three gongs of its own, Best Sci-fi Film, Best Director and Ultimate Scream (film of the year, basically). Shockingly, William Shatner went on stage to collect the award for Ultimate Scream from a bemused Morgan Freeman. Shatner told a seated director Abrams, "J.J., I'll handle this. This movie was big. Imagine how big it could have been with me in it? ... I'll be waiting for your call."
Above: What we knew all along.Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire presented comic book God Stan Lee with the Comic-Con Icon award for his services to the comics industry over the past sixty years.
Above: Peter Parker has to stop his laser eyes from... sorry, wrong franchise.
Above: The Man and The Iron Man.Quentin Tarantino presented the Scream Mastermind award to the legendary George A Romero for his services to the horror genre, including, you know, starting it with
Night of the Living Dead and continuing to evolve it with the forthcoming
Survival of the Dead.
Above: It's definately not that big, mate.
Above: The true face of God.Finally, Johnny Depp presented the Rock Immortal award to his inspiration for Jack Sparrow, Keith Richards. The Rolling Stones received a standing ovation, stating, "I liked the living legend, that was all right, but immortal is even better."
Above: The man who carried Orlando Bloom through nine hours of film.
Above: He once fell out of a tree. Also presenting awards were Jessica Alba, Kate Bosworth, Harrison Ford, Justin Long and Christina Ricci.
Scream 2009 airs on October 27th.
