Angelina Jolie is set to play the infamous Patrizia Reggiani in Ridley Scott's yet to be titled Gucci film. Based around the formidable Italian fashion dynasty brought to worldwide fame when worn by icons such as Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy, its story provides plenty of scope for drama. It will be the internal strife that threatened to destroy the company which this film explores though.
A tale of greed and corruption which culminated in the murder of Maurizio Gucci , grandson of Gucci founder Guccio Guchi. Maurizio's murder came during a period of turmoil for the company in the early 1990's when it stood on the brink of bankrupcy, mainly due to a Godfather sized power struggle between members of the Gucci family. Two years later the ex-wife of Maurizio, Patrizia Reggiani, was found guilty of being responsible for having Maurizio wacked by a hired hitman and she was sentenced to 29 years in prison.
Jolie will certainly relish the opportunity to sink her teeth into the role of Patrizia Reggiano. Potentially it could be played in the style of classic femme fatales and Jolie oozes all the qualities needed to perform the role this way. Leonardo DiCaprio is rumoured for the part of Maurizio Gucci, despite lacking much physical similarity to the real man. It's plausible though considering that Scott and DiCaprio have worked together before in Body of Lies
. The original screenplay was written by Charles Randolph (The Life of David Gale
) but is now being rewritten and filming is set to start next year.
