Films I personally enjoyed most this year: 10. Taken 9. Zombieland 8. Terminator Salvation 7. Up 6. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince 5. The Hangover 4. District 9 3. Star Trek 2. Watchmen - The best movie? No. But the reading the graphic novel then seeing it come to life was the most enjoyable cinema experience. 1. Avatar - I expect WORST OF THE YEAR 1. Halloween 2 - Rob Zombie makes an awful remake even worse. Reaction from critics and public suggests the inexplicable fan support he enjoys is finally sinking away. If you guys can't remember everything you've watched, there's a great list of this year's films here - http://www.boxofficemojo.com/yearly/chart/?yr=2009&p=.htm

When I look at these lists it makes me realise that I spend more time talking about films than I do actually watching them. I've seen quite a lot this year though best so far Inglorious Basterds Fantastic Mr Fox Hurt Locker Star Trek Broken Embraces The White Ribbon District 9 The Hangover
films I haven't seen yet but will probably like, Moon, A Serious Man, The Imaginarium of Doctor P and Where the Wild Things Are
I try not to see bad films if i can help it but definitely, without a doubt, the worst film I have seen this year is The Final Destination (3D) also I really disliked Terminator Salvation
Avatar could potentially be the best film of the year but it could easily be one of the biggest disappointments as well, we shall see.

Yeah, it's shocking looking down the list how few I've actually seen. This year is even worse than last year and I struggled to find ten I'd watched even back then. I strongly suspect I would have added Paranormal Activity to my list had I got to it, and Hurt Locker. Problem is I wait for everything to get to DVD, so I'm always a year behind.
Wadd, you need to put your 10 in order, as Dalmatian will be compiling something based on the votes from all the writers on the site. (I'll put out an e-mail in a couple of weeks to those who skip the forum.)

I saw New Moon sunday night. I'd seen so many great films in a row that I needed to see a piece of shit to reaffirm my faith in cinema. Seriously, watch all the films on the top ten lists in a row and you'll be begging to see something bad. I blame Up. It made me feel good about life. I'm writing my New Moon review as I speak.
Which reminds me:
ADDITIONAL WORST:
Transformers 2 Watchmen Fame
ADDITIONAL BEST:
Crank 2

Ha, I'm game, though that wasn't what I intended. I'll look back on how we did it last year. Yeah, there's about 6 movies I need to see before I make a definitive list as well. Anyone know if I can get Bronson in the States? That looked amazing. Also, I was obscenely lacking in my foreign film watching this year, all these are from America. Anyone got anything I might now know about

two of the films that are potentially in my top 10 are foreign language; The White Ribbon which won the palme d'or at Cannes and Broken Embraces which is the latest Pedro Almodovar film. I don't know if you are familliar with him but basically if you like his other films then you will probably like this. I think that was also a contender for the Palme d'or which is usually a good indication that a film is worth watching, more so than the Oscars where politics and celebrity take precedent over great filmmaking. The only other foreign language film from this year that springs to mind is The Good, The Bad and The Weird, which I haven't seen yet but have heard good things.
I haven't seen Bronson yet either. I don't know where you can get it from, have you got a multi-regional DVD player?

I've seen Bronson and although it lacks plot it makes up for it with an amazingly charasmatic lead performance and some great direction on a budget. I wouldn't say it was one of the ten best of the year, but it's not totally out of place. You can buy it on the UK iTunes right now for just £3.99. Worth downloading and watching on the PC. In the US it didn't come out in cinemas that long ago so I don't know where it's available currently.

Twaddington: I'll c heck those out. I'm very familiar with Pedro Almadovar but not his films. I have a friend that hails from Spain and she adores them, but I've never had the guts to check one out cause I consider Penelope Cruz a moth-faced blight on humanity. But that's mainly because of Captain Corelli's Mandolin
Sheridan: wadda ya say folks have there numbered lists in with short paragraphs explaining each one by Dec, 19th? Does that gives all you blokes over there time for Avatar? And should we also do a "worst" list as well? I think that would be fun.
I can compile with pics, write an intro and outro, and send it to you.

Avatar lands in the UK 18th December I believe. Maybe the deadline should be around the 23rd so people have time to see it? Last year everyone had a couple of votes for worst film too and we stuck those on the bottom of the post. You can do the two lists separate, it's up to you. It doesn't have to be formatted like last year's, I guess it would be good to flesh it out a bit.
