Exclusive: Tension On Spider-Man 4 Production

It surprised a few commentators when Sam Raimi decided to return to the franchise after Spider-Man 3. Well, we have a source closely connected to the new Spider-Man production that reports the problems aren't exactly ironed out.

A few days ago Raimi gathered up those working on pre-production and announced unexpectedly that he was leaving.

At the moment those spoken to in that meeting are on hiatus.

Does it mean Sam Raimi has walked? Not necessarily, his motives aren't clear. It could be a momentary lapse in desire to go through with the project. It could be a move in the power play that goes on behind the scenes.

It has been reported elsewhere that Raimi had a struggle with producers on Spider-Man 3, that the character of Venom was forced into the movie when Raimi didn't want him there. Watch this space.

Why don't you post is as "anonymous source"?  Why on earth would you get flak? AICN posts unsubstantiated stuff all the time and it sounds like you have a source you trust.  Word everything more as a qquestion.

Well I've put it on the front page but I'm not going to send it round all the other webmasters. Problem is, it looks like it's made up, and when he doesn't quit for good (I bet he'll be persuaded to stay on as director), it'll look like we were lying and damage our reputation.

Last I heard the movie was on hiatus for the Christmas break. AICN made it out like the film was indefinately on hold.

Whether they are on a break for Christmas or not, in the meeting Sam Raimi said he was quitting as director because he didn't want to go through with it. How quickly it comes back together will depend on whether or not he changes his mind. Why is everyone so quick to believe Sony's version of events - do you really think they wouldn't put spin on what's happening? IESB and I have heard virtually the same thing from two different sources. And mine is 100% reliable.
