Sir Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen, Asa Butterfield (
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas) and Chloe Moretz (
Kick-Ass) have all joined the cast of Martin Scorsese's
The Invention of Hugo Cabret. Based on Brian Selznick's children's fantasy novel, the story is set in the 1930's and follows an orphan who lives in the walls of a busy Paris train station maintaining the clocks. Attempting to repair a mechanical man, he becomes caught up in a strange adventure.
After hearing that Martin Scorsese was adapting
The Invention of Hugo Cabret I thought i'd check the book out to see why the great director had picked it. I was immediately enchanted by it. The book combines elements of film, comics and novels to create something quite original. In many ways it's an obvious choice for film adaptation as it is sort of like a more detailed storyboard. Because of this, I can't help think it is a bit too easy, especially for a director of Scorsese's calibre. Nevertheless, I am interested to see what he does with it.
