The first trailer for DreamWorks Animation's Megamind has hit the net, take a look...
Back when this had the much better title Oobermind, I was really digging the
character designs, so not only was I hoping it would be a little better than the majority of DreamWorks' animated output, I was hoping this would be a relatively unique offering as well, inevitable Incredibles comparisons aside. The trailer does little to impress however, and worse still, it seems alarmingly similar to another due to be released this year - Despicable Me. Duelling movies are
a noted phenomenon, but this is insane. Two CG animated movies centring around a supervillain, voiced by huge comedy stars?
The synopsis for Megamind is as follows:
When super villain MegaMind (Ferrell) defeats his archrival Metro Man (Brad Pitt), the world should be his oyster. But instead, MegaMind falls into total despair. It turns out that life without a rival is life without a point for him. So, he creates a new superhero rival, Titan (Jonah Hill). Unfortunately, the new hero wants to be a super villain, too. Caught in the middle, star reporter Roxanne Ritchi (Tina Fey) asks the tough questions: Who can we turn to? Who has what it takes to stand up to this menace? Who will defend the innocent? MegaMind! That’s who.
In Despicable Me, Steve Carrell's Gru combats a man who dethrones him as the world's Number One Supervillain...presumably defending the innocent in the process. Check out that trailer if you haven't already:
Megamind stars Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt and Tina Fey and will hit theatres on November 5th. Which are you more interested in seeing, Megamind or Despicable Me?
