I myself have a mixed opinion on Rob Zombie -- Dig his music, really dig his wife but I've been disappointed by two of his three directorial features. House of a 1000 Corpses to me had a strong visual sense but was ultimately an empty exercise in grimness and torture. On the other hand its pseudo-sequel The Devil's Rejects was a potent follow up through a sharper focus on its storyline and characters. His Halloween remake offered an interesting if confused and somewhat cliched backstory on the origin of Michael Myers only to seriously falter when it came to outright remaking the original.

Now Zombie is asking fans on his MySpace page if they're interested in seeing a feature-length version of "Werewolf Women of the S.S." -- His trailer contribution to Grindhouse earlier this year. Again, I'm kinda mixed on this one. I though the strongest of the preview trio was Eli Roth's 80 holiday slasher "Thanksgiving" followed a close second by Edgar Wright's everything-but-the-kitchen-sink hell-house-style "Don't". "Werewolf Women" did have several familiar cult figure cameos, lots of tit shots and the sadistic glee of Ilsa -- She-Wolf of the S.S..  On the other hand I felt the cameo appearance of a major movie star (it rhymes with Smicholas Smage) playing Fu Manchu(?!?!?!) pushed itself even out of the realm of the anything-goes cult film/grindhouse sub-genre.

With all that said I still look forward to continue to see Zombie develop as a director.  Its quite apparent onscreen that the man genuinely loves his horror as opposed to the talentless video hacks currently infecting the genre courtesy of Platinum Dunes (Quintessential video hack Michael Bay's company) amongst others.

I'm not a Zombie fan at all. He's a larger than life character, but that does not make for a good filmmaker. Asking his hardcore fans if he should do a project is the same as asking a load of yes men. Can you ever imagine the result of that vote will be 'not a good idea'??

Werewolf was by far the weakest spoof trailer. But there's an advantage in making it - if it turns out campy and crap like Halloween and House Of 1000 Corpses he's got the perfect defence, "Hey, it's meant to be that way, it's just a piece of fun man."

I've heard that Zombie was hard to reign in on set and practically shot a whole movie for his fake trailer.

And it isn't the best of the bunch, although it's head and shoulders above Eli Rowlf's Thanksgiving debacle. I want to know exactly what that guy sucks to make people give him money for making these things.
