After turning in a solid performance as a country singer in the indie drama Crazy Heart, it looks like Colin Farrell is headed back to the studio for some acting work despite the fact that his last studio film, Miami Vice, was a massive failure on nearly every level. Deadline says the actor is returning to studios in a big way with not one, but two very different roles. First, he will take on the role of a charming vampire in the Craig Gillespie directed remake of Fright Night, then he'll move on to star in the Seth Gordon directed comedy Horrible Bosses with fellow comedic actor Paul Rudd. Guess which one of these I actually care about?

If you guessed the Fright Night remake, then you are sorely mistaken. If there is one thing I hate more than a remake, it's a remake of an 80's horror film that is just fine the way it's remembered. Farrell joins Anton Yelchin and Toni Collette in this story about a charismatic vampire who tries to convince his film obsessed neighbor that he is a vampire who has come to suck as much blood as he can, thereby eradicating plenty of human life. Though Farrell seems like he'll fit the part well, I just can't say I'm invested in this remake at all.

The project I'm excited to have Farrell join is this comedy with Paul Rudd, Horrible Bosses. Though director Seth Gordon dropped a few levels of cool by following The King of Kong with Four Christmases, maybe he's got some good comedic sensibilities in his head just waiting to work their magic. The film focuses on a trio of employees who plot to murder their titular tyrannical supervisors. While it's unclear if Farrell will be one of the plotters or one of the bosses, I'd much rather see him play a slimy supervisor. Either way, In Bruges proved that Farrell has decent comedic timing and delivery so this will be a performance to look forward to.

Dammit! Colin Farrell in a Fright Night remake sounded like gold. Turns out it's unrelated.
