http://boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/

$30m opening ain't great for a $200m budget.

How the hell did they manage to keep MacGruber in so many theatres for its second week after a $4m opening last week? Woh, look at its average. Shame, looked pretty funny to me.

Robin Hood looks pretty bad at first glance as well, but when you take in box office outside America, it's going alright.

I'm sire Persia will at least break even. I had NO desire to see it, but all my friends really like it, so maybe it will hover for a while. Still ... expect the sequel, if there is one, to have a much smaller budget.

Do they do that? Reduce a budget for a sequel?

No way! Couldn't tell AT ALL. If anything, I think it looked better than the first movie, they used more locations and stuff...just goes to show you how resourceful a production can be when they don't have oodles of money.

Not the second one, the third one.  Caspian had a bigger budget that Wardrobe and didn't perform as well, so they hacked the budget on the third and filmed it in Mexico.  I dont remember the exact numbers, but it was a BIG drop.

You're right, the second film had a MUCH better look. Unfortunately, they also had a scene where the main characters are literally goosed by magic. So ... yeah.

Ah, okay. Then what the budget cut does to the production remains to be seen...

They should've used it as an effects budget for Sarah Jessica Parker's face.

I heard that SJP got $15m for it so I guess the other 3 got between 10-15 as well.  That's over half the budget on 4 TV actresses!!!
