Hands up who didn't see this coming? What, none of you? Huh.

Toy Story 3 has opened to rave reviews across the board, leaving this writer asking the question, 'what? It's out already?' Naturally audiences across the globe have flocked to see the latest animated adventures of Buzz and Woody and Pixar's newest film has already broken several records.

First of all, the film opened on Friday to the tune of $41 million in the US. This is double the opening gross for Up, Pixar's last film, and slightly ahead of the previous best, Shrek the Turd's $39 million.

Secondly, Toy Story 3 has rolled out in only a quarter of its worldwide territories and has already $44.8 million. This, says Disney, is 'the biggest consolidated debut for a Pixar title from this bucket of release markets, almost doubling the (comparable) high set by Up.' The film broke new records in Mexico ($14 million) and China ($9.5 million).

Quite spectacular, really. Pixar must be toasting themselves silly - they've done it again. Against all the odds, Pixar have never made a bad film and have successfully made the world's first perfect trilogy, both critically and financially. Well done.

The rest of the box office is pretty much as you would expect. The Karate Kid and The A-Team target second and third respectively, while Get Him to the Greek is a non-mover at four. Shrek Forever After tumbles down the magical money ladder to number five, while the chart's second non-mover, Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time leaps into number six. Ashton Kutcher chucklefest Killers gets shot into seventh place, with the only other new release Jonah Hex bombs into eighth, making only $5 million in its opening weekend. Oh dear.

Ninth and tenth places go to long-running Iron Man and Marmaduke, whatever the hell that is.

Marmaduke is a long running, utterly unfunny American comic strip. He's a big dumb dog that makes messes. That's it. But now he's Owen Wilson.

It makes my heart glad when great movies do so well!
