Two separate fighting games; one built on the Street Fighter engine and another on the Tekken engine. The games are called Tekken X Street Fighter and Street Fighter X Tekken, utilising only characters from those two franchises.

Street Fighter X Tekken, is a fighting game that will feature both Tekken and Street Fighter characters on a 2D plane with EX-esque super moves and the art sytle of Street Fighter 4. The title is being developed by Capcom.

Tekken X Street Fighter, is the same concept with different gameplay. Street Fighter characters are fighting in Tekken's world, which will feature 3D framework fans know from the series, and this title is being developed by Namco.

We got to see Street Fighters x Tekken being played live at Comic-Con over the weekend. But this could be the last wee see of it for a long time.

Following the game's announcement, Capcom producer Yoshinori Ono shared a few additional details on the game with Famitsu.com. The big point of note from the interview concerns release time frame. Said Ono, "As a target, it's about two years from announcement. It looks like the next time we'll be able to make a big announcement is at next year's Captivate." Captivate is a press event that Capcom holds every April.

So if a release isn't due for two years, why such an early announcement? The reason, explained Ono, was to deliver something for the fans at Comic-Con.

Despite being playable, development only recently started on SF x Tekken. Ono told Famitsu.com that they only started real work on the game one or two months back, although he admitted that there were serious discussions with Namco Bandai as far back as a year ago.

With only one or two months development behind it and two more years go go, perhaps we can expect SF x Tekken to evolve greatly before its final release.
