Disappointingly unchanged. And therefore unscary.

In other news, did you all notice that Craven's last film disappeared? He talked about it and showed images form it TWO Comic-Cons ago ...

Weird, my first post was deleted.

Ahem -

Ghostface is a dimestore costume in The States, sold everywhere before the first film came out (and moreso after of course) so it already "wasn't scary" in that sense.

Just cause someone's seen it before doesn't make it unscary.

Are you sure? The making of doc said it was made for the movie based on the famous painting 'The Scream'. After Scream 1 they were in every store. Fear fundamentally comes from the unknown and once something becomes overly familiar it loses much of its power.

Craven's last movie is still waiting for release. Likely because it's just pretty sh*t. With a couple of early exceptions, Craven is a far better director than screenwriter. He wrote that one.

You make a good point.

As for the mask ... maybe.  That 90s are a blur to me, as I masturbated a lot between the ages of 10-20. Maybe I'm thinking of knock offs that came out the instant the movie was popular, but they were in all the drugstores, etc.

I agree that the first go round is always the best (first love, first scare, first game of russian roulette with a circus clown) and that the first time you see something is always a big deal (Jurassic Park Dinos compared to Lost World Dinos, for example) but with proper development of the story the thing can still have the same, if not greater emotional impact (Darth Vader in Star Wars vs Return of the Jedi). If they make you love the shit out of the characters, ala Scream 1, then they can rock it. Chances are slim, but we can hope!

My favourite moment in a Scream film has to be number 2 when the two girls crash their car and one has to climb over ghost face to escape.

This movie however just looks like a complete retread, i hope he has something special up his sleeve but on the (ghost)face of it I'm not convinced

That's certainly at least half of it and Wes Craven is a total master of that, at least for the first two movies. I still think an overly-familiar mask is not as scary, and they could have changed it up here.

Then again they could've gone the Rob Zombie Halloween mask route and completely f*cked it up, i don't mind it being the same mask as long as he makes sure the scares are quality
