The first official images for The Thing have just been released and we've got them right here. It's one of the most anticipated films of 2011 (well by us at movie-moron at least) so this is a pretty exciting time right now.

Also here are some juicy behind the scenes stills as well.

In this prequel Mary Elizabeth Winstead stars as paleontologist Kate Lloyd who joins a Norwegian scientific team in Antartica. When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew's pilot Carter, played by Joel Edgerton, to keep it from killing them off one at a time
Many fans of John Carpenter's 1984 classic are worried that this prequel could tarnish that film in some way but these words from this film's producer Marc Abraham might help to allay their fears
Whilst discussing The Thing and its director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. He said,
"...when it came to being anything that was referenced in that movie, we have absolutely stayed with it. Thousands of hours he's spent looking at that movie. He knows and is respectful of every aspect."
The film is due to come out April 29, 2011 in the U.S
