You’d think Guillermo Del Toro was Jesus the stuff that’s written about him on the net, so prepare to jump over the moon - he’s directing Frankenstein.
MTV report it’s going to be a re-imagining, not a literal adaptation. “The only way to do the Shelley novel is to actually do a four-hour miniseries,” says Del Toro. “But I think there are permutations in which you can tell the myth in a different way.”
Everything is in still in pre-production, and is being slowed by the writers strike, so no word yet on whether Robert De Niro will be reprising the role…
…That really was an odd choice, wasn’t it? De Niro as Frankenstein. When one thinks of that lumbering monster one really doesn’t connect it to New York attitude. Anyway…
Frankenstein never scared me. But this (genuine) closing quote from Del Toro does - “I will appear shirtless for most of the length of the film. You will be amazed at my chocolate bar physique.”
