Wes Anderson is the sort of Director who can make A-list stars minimise their pay demands for the chance to be part of his films. His upcoming film, title ‘Moon Rise Kingdom’ has a host of high class actors attached to it. Rumoured to be in talks with the director to star in the film are Ed Norton, Bruce Willis, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton as well as Anderson regular Bill Murray. That’s some serious acting pedigree right there.
Moon Rise Kingdom is set in the 60s. Two young adults fall in love and run away. Leaders in their New England town are sticking the idea that they've disappeared and go in search of them. Norton will play a scout leader who brings his charges on a search. Willis is in talks to play the town sheriff who’s also looking, and who is having an affair with the missing girl’s mother, the role McDormand is in talks to play. Murray will play the girl's father, who has his own issues.
The script has been written by Anderson and Roman Coppola and the film is scheduled for production in Spring next year.
Although Anderson’s style of filmmaking doesn’t appeal to everyone, personally I’m a big fan. Admittedly, the ‘quirky’ style of American Independent Cinema for which he is known has been imitated to death by lesser filmmakers over the last decade or so, but I still love it. Also, I think his style has really matured in recent years. His last 2 films, ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ and ‘The Darjeeling Limited’, are probably his most accomplished works to date.
Are you an Anderson fan? and do you think his films are getting better, worse or pretty much staying the same?
