Courtesy of a tweet by Universal Pictures, we have just discovered that the release date for 'The Thing' has been changed to Friday October 14th next year. Originally it was set to be released on April 29th.

Starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, 'The Thing' is a prequel to John Carpenter's remake also titled 'The Thing' (it's all very complicated). Both Carpenter's film and Howard Hawk's 1951 original, 'The Thing from Another World', are considered classics in their own right.

It's never good news when a release date of a film is put back. Even worse when the reason for that change is so that 'Fast 5', the latest edition of the epically retarded 'Fast and Furious' series, can be released on that day instead.

Let's just hope that this doesn't mean they have lost confidence in the film due to it being terrible. Maybe it's ridiculously scary and they are just hoping to cash in on the Halloween audience. Either way, we'll have to wait a little longer to find out.

Ronald D. Moore is hit or miss, and a prequel has always seemed silly considering we know they all die and The Thing runs off in the form of a wolf. AND Ms. Winstead is gonna have to wear a parka the entire movie.  Not boding well.

It's a dog, with a bit of wolf in him. I think the prequel idea works well. What is very silly that an American woman is helicopted in to a Norwegian base. Especially since she looks 21. We don't know that they all die, only that the two chasing the dog get shot dead/grenade themselves.

I'm looking forward to it and i think the date switch makes sense, April is not exactly known for being a great horror release month whereas October and a near as damn it Friday 13th date is as close as they're going to get for the perfect 'horror' release time.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm gonna see it, just saying. Prequels inherently have a "seen it!" quality that's always confused me.

Clarkseworld published this piece of fan fiction. Enjoy:

I don't think this is bad news for the film. I am just sad to have to wait longer. But it will be awesome to watch it around Halloween.
