It's over 10 years since American Pie both charmed and disgusted us with its mixture of gross-out comedy and sentimentality. Since then there's been about a million sequels/spin-offs, ranging from the terrible to the unwatchable to the never watched or heard of by anyone, ever.
The original cast have all growed up. Some have achieved further success and others not so much. Producer Craig Perry is hoping to wipe the slate clean from American Pie 3 onwards and bring us American Pie 4 with all the original cast. Here's what the guy had to say
“If you start whittling it down, then it is no longer what it is meant to me. Those characters have become part of the cultural lexicon, and I think there’s an interest in seeing where they are, because they haven’t been on screen in seven years. I think that’s a very effective way of backing into this is having people wonder ‘what did happen to those guys, what did happen to those girls?’”
Perry admits that it may be hard to get them all back together as many of them are busy with other projects. Alyson Hannigan may not be able to do it because of her role on 'How I Met Your Mother'.
“Alyson has got the show and the baby, so she’s got plenty on her plate, so there’s a lot of people who have a lot of things to do,”
“I think if we get a script—which I think we will—that everybody is excited about it, and then it’s going to be about the schedule, because it’s going to be really hard to get that gang back together. Because I think that’s one of the things – we want to get everybody back together then you’ve got to do it right.”
The question is, even if it does have the original cast, is that enough to prevent it from becoming another straight-to-DVD classic like 'American Pie: Band Camp', 'American Pie: The Book of Love' and my personal favourite 'American Pie: The Naked Mile'?
