We finally have our first official look at Andrew Garfield, the new Spidey, in costume - albeit sans mask. Take a look below! I really dislike it in comparison with the Raimi one, which was a lot more faithful to the original Steve Ditko design that hasn't been wildly deviated from in the comics. The gloves are over-designed, it's an odd choice to have the webbing disappear randomly midway down his torso, and the costume looks rubbery... Of course, without the mask we lose the full effect of the design, so a lot remains to be seen. The belt missing is weird. It's hard to tell if the belt has been torn off because of battle-damage (there looks like a shadow of it there, and a partial fragment on the right hand side) or if there's going to be some kind of web-cartridge belt and he's out of webbing... Oh yeah, web-cartridges. Because it looks like Peter Parker is going to have to make web-shooters instead of organic webbing in this movie, take a look at the bumps on the wrists. The costume already has a lot of fans all over the web though, including awesome indie comic book artist Corey Lewis, who quickly uploaded his own interpretation of the costume: What do you think, are you pleased or disappointed by the costume? And the most important question of all: can any future Spider-Man movie honestly compete with this: Source: EW

It doesn't look like Steve Ditko cause Steve Ditko didn't make it.
Looks damn good to me, though, I'm so tired of Superhero movies I could barely muster the energy to open this article.

Just heard it's artificial web shooters so maybe the glove design is part of the shooting mechanism?

I mentioned mechanical web-shooters here! I don't think the way the gloves look has anything to do with that, but it's a thought. I don't know how you compare it favourably with the last costume, and a lot of people are...

My gripe is funny videos where the credits are longer than the video. I was just getting into that. Damn you Spider-Walt.

The fans griping about this suit are the same (lower case) morons that griped about Hugh Jackman being too tall for Wolverine. They'd rather have a horrible actor that looks exactly like the comic than an amazing actor that can bring nuance to the role. This isn't a black, green, and purple Superman costume we're talking about here, it's a slight variation on an iconic costume that's redone in EVERY. SINGLE. COMIC. BOOK. REBOOT. OF. THE. SAME. STORY. LIKE. WHEN. THE. SUIT. TURNED. BLACK.
They are latching on to a single image and ransacking it for web content, that's all. They have no voice of their own so they bitch-pick on someone else's work.
Look at me, defending a movie I have no desire to see.
And yes I"m proud of that pun up there.

I'm posting RIGHT HERE. And I have no idea what you mean in regards to every. single. comic. book. reboot. of. the. same. story. Spider-Man's not really had reboots, and although he has had a lot of costumes, he always goes back to the original version. Those costumes are usually worn for a specific purpose. I'm not saying I won't get used to this one, just that I much prefer the Raimi version.

The one in the suit that looks good? Don't say that, you'll give him a complex.

The mask is going to be even more controversial, wait for it.

Thing is, Garfield's suit isn't controversial - pretty much everyone likes it in every comment thread I've seen. I'm befuddled. I'll get used to it, nearly have already, but there's no doubt in my mind the old one was better in every way. The mask is pretty unmessuppable.

Pretty sure. Short of making it unrecognisable as Spidey the only thing they could do is have weird eyes somehow, and I don't think that would bother me all that much. I thought you may want to check this out seeing as how you're hung up on Peter Parker actually being able to make the suit: Thoughts?

Raimi's costume was also implausible but the level of detail in this one just pushes it into the absolutely ludicrous zone. He's not even an art student, he's an academic.

Maybe that's the plot of the film- how will Spider-Man dress for the fight? His enemy is a rogue sewing machine hell-bent on stiching fabrics together poorly. Luckily Gwen Stacy makes costumes, but she gets kidnapped by the sewing machine. A fight ensues.
There. I dun fixed it.

You mean sew, right? Are women and pigs synonymous in your mind DJaws? I'm appalled! Mary Jane totally sewed Peter Parker's costumes up in Ultimate Spider-Man by the way, and I have a feeling she did the same in the regular Marvel Universe a time or two. You know how women are with clothes and stuff...
