The season of little figurines being given to smug people is well and truly upon us, beginning with the ones nobody cares about before moving on to the real meat - the Razzies.
In the mean time, these early awards ceremonies will give us a pretty clear indication of how things are going to play out for the next few weeks, so get ready to see these names over and ruddy over again:
Inception and
The Social Network.
Inception picked up the award for Best Screenplay at the Writer's Guild of America. Writer-director-some-sort-god Christopher Nolan said, 'This is one of things I'm most proud of,' before talking about how his earlier film
Memento wasn't written under guild jurisdiction and mentioning that he'd like all worthy scripts to be considered in the future. This rule is why you're not hearing anything about
The King's Speech or
Toy Story 3 right here.
Aaron Sorkin stopped playing Farmville for long enough to collect his award for Best Adapted Screenplay for
The Social Network, saying, 'I wrote a good script but David Fincher made a great movie.' This gong will join Sorkin's other award - the USC Libraries Scripter Award - that he won earlier this week.
Place those Oscar bets now.
