Im actually looking forward to this, i didn't think it would have anything in there for me as the character does come across as a huge US drum banger and I know they have gone to lengths to say that its not about an American Hero just a Hero and this trailer actually warms to it, especially liked the skinny Evans as DJ said

This is literally only because he wears the flag. No matter how many times you try to tell people that the character isn't like that, they refuse to listen. I guess it is something you have to be shown rather than told.

Yeah it's not like his costume is the American flag, he's noble and just, and his comics are called things like this - I like the new trailer. Both Thor and this have solid previews I reckon.

That's what I'm saying Sheridan, his costume is the flag, he's a patriotic character, but people have serious misconceptions about what that means.

Thing is based on that trailer I'm certainly willing to find out what he means, which is more than i would've been up for when the project was announced

Surely it's just going to be, like the trailer, someone who wants to serve America, gets a chance through bodybuilding in a can, isn't all that capable with his powers at first, is given responsibility early by some army commanders that other commanders don't agree with, has moments of self-doubt based on old insecurities, but ultimately steps up to the plate. The woman who he grows to love gets kidnapped in some form and he is instrumental in her rescue, but she has to kill some people herself to show that women don't need rescuing.
Meanwhile everyone plays down the use of the word 'American' and America in general because they want to movie to make as much money as it can abroad.
Is there more to it?

I'd say you're wrong from there onwards.

Incorrect. The trailer clearly shows that Stanley Tucci does not die -

Hey I'm American and it really seems like you guys are kicking America around. I mean don't get me wrong America is an asshole of a country but thats the government not the people or the ones who serve nessisarily. I'm just saying America can be cool.

Not at all, I love the States, and lived there for quite a while. Britain is a cynical country and is cynical of its own role in the world, we sometimes look over at America's undying love of the flag and often black and white view of the world (which Captain America initially looks to represent) and roll our eyes a bit (eg Sarah Palin's huge following). In the UK the English flag is rarely seen and is considered a symbol of thugs, literally. I'm not explaining that well but thank God America is the world's only true superpower because its heart is usually in the right place and if Russia or China was calling the shots the world would be much worse off.

I understood waht you were saying about the flag over there.
And because of that I now understand what you are talking about, we do over use the flag a bit, but you are right about Russia and China though...that would suck.
I just wasn't sure if yall were bashing the US or if it was something more. So glad you cleared it up for me, because I'm not a US purist or anything but I am proud to be an American. I just thought we were gonna have to forum-box or something...lol
I think the majority of Americans roll thier eyes at her.

No one on a film message board could legitimately hate the US, we're all about Americana.

I also love the US, been a few times and would move out their if i could afford it and seeing as the filmmaking world is pretty much dictated by 'Hollywood' and the studios that run it i have no beef there. My distaste for Captain America is more down to the over the top patriotism that he appears to embody but like i said the trailer goes a long way to making me want to actually pay my £10 to see it in a cinema filled with obnoxious teenagers who seem to be unable to switch off their mobile phones and/or eat their food with their mouths shut

Nice Marvel quotation: Captain America wants to serve his country, but he's not this sort of jingoistic American flag-waver. He's just a good person. We make a point of that in the script: Don't change who you are once you go from Steve Rogers to this super-soldier; you have to stay who you are inside, that's really what's important more than your strength and everything... It's also the idea that this is not about America so much as it is about the spirit of doing the right thing. It's an international cast and an international story. It's about what makes America great and what make the rest of the world great too.
