During a recent auction, Megan Ellison swooped into the bidding war over the
Terminator franchise and outbid Lionsgate for the the rights to make two more movies. Rumor has it she then jumped onto her hovercraft, cackled like a supervillain, and burst through the roof amidst a flurry of smoke and sparks (source pending).
Apparently Schwarzenegger was unable to carry the franchise on his own. Ellison is relatively new to the Hollywood game; even though her IMDB page lists nine movies to her name, four of those happened since 2010 and the other five are still unreleased. Daughter of multi-billionaire Larry Ellison, she first caught major headlines when she rescued Paul Thomas Anderson's potential masterpiece,
The Master, after multiple financial backers passed on its controversial subject matter (it's a thinly disguised critique of Scientology, supposedly).
Though most of the movies she's produced are little-known, her latest was
True Grit, the surprisingly successful underdog of 2010. With that and a Paul Thomas Anderson film in the works, does this bode well for a beloved franchise? What are your thoughts?
