Disney and Spider-Man director Sam Raimi are bringing a new version of The Wizard of Oz to the big screen - Oz: The Great and Powerful, a prequel focusing on the wizard himself, played by James Franco. And the movie has just added Michelle Williams to the cast as the good witch Glinda.
Glinda's evil sisters will be played by Mila Kunis and Rachel Weisz. Williams has, by far, the most impressive list of credits compared with other Dawson's Creek alumni, and has given performances that justify her successes, but this seem like it would easily be her most commercial project to date.
Whilst it is interesting to see the story of Oz from a different perspective, it is curious that Disney haven't chosen to adapt another of L Frank Baum's Oz novels (of which there are almost 15), the successful Broadway show Wicked or what audiences have been clamouring for since time immemorial: a Lollipop Guild origin movie.
