Armie Hammer is set to play The Lone Ranger in the new movie version of the classic television series. The movie is to be directed by Gore Verbinski, director of the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and star Johnny Depp as Tonto, the "Lone" Ranger's sidekick.
Armie Hammer seems nicely cast, he's very much the square-jawed all-American (would have made a fantastic Captain America, actually), but as The Social Netowrk proved he also knows how to give an interesting performance. In other words, he's not the cardboard cutout that you usually expect the square-jawed all-American type to be, and will probably play quite nicely off of Depp, especially in the comic Don Quixote take Verbinski has on the character.
Not to mention, the dude's name is Armie Hammer. Armie. Hammer. Short of being called Battalion Gun, you could not ask for a more badass name. It's truly Vin Diesel/Sam Rockwll levels of awesome. How do you feel about the project and this news? I'm very much in the more-Westerns-the-better camp.
