Affable Uber-Genius, Stan Lee, speaks out about his (in)famous cameos in the Marvel film adaptations:

While this fun, silly clip wasn't intended to be a film news-worthy announcement, the description of Lee's Spider-Man cameo is troublesome to me. The whole "bystander is oblivious to the carnage around them" joke has been played to death and the librarian stamping books gag is a blatant rip-off of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

I LOVE the character Spider-Man and thought (500) Days of Summer was a kick in the pants, but the writing staff on board this reboot seems questionable. While Alvin Sargent worked on the awesome Spider-Man 2, he did so working on a story by Pulitzer-prize-winning author Michael Chabon ... for this reboot he's working with Steve Kloves, who wrote all the bad screenplays in the Harry Potter franchise (so, all of them but one).

I just can't muster the energy or money to see this reboot when we just had Raimi's storyverse in development. Though, I must say I'm happy they are using The Lizard as a villain.

It called that gag to mind for me too, doubtless many of the filmmakers had it in mind also, but I imagine in execution it'll be quite different. In other news, I can't believe I'm semi-defending the goddamn Spider-Man reboot. DJaws, what evil hast thou wrought?!

Sorry! I'm sure the movie will be a lot of fun, but it's going to be SO hard to seem new and fresh amidst a slew of other superhero flicks, let alone the fact the previous Spider-Man franchise was in full swing just four years ago (with said franchise in development on a fourth film just a year ago). I simply cannot muster the energy to care. I really don't think I will buy a ticket unless it gets GLOWING reviews. As a fan, going back to square one so soon feels like a failure, it actually makes me feel TIRED to think about building all these story threads again.
