I will probably always want to see any movie made from John Carpenter. Plus this has the lovely Amber Heard and Danielle Panabaker! I'm pretty pumped for this flick! Share your opinions!

I saw this recently, its available in the UK on VOD. I should've written a full review but was so disappointed i just couldn't bring myself to write a negative review of one of my film making heroes.

The main thing is that Carpenter, and i really hate to say this, but its feels like he couldn't be bothered, the action is all so pedestrian and the 'twist' is so blindingly obvious that the suspense is sucked out of the film within ten minutes. Amber Heard is good in it but the cliche's that we've come to know and groan at are here in abundance and he hasn't even tried to do something different with them, its all so predictable. You've got the Doctor doing illegal experiments on patients, the butch female nurse who hates the patients, the overly pervy male nurse, the list goes on.
The setting of a mental asylum has been used to death but i was hoping Carpenter could put a refreshing spin on it but he doesn't. Its a huge wasted opportunity, as a Carpenter fan i just thought he'd produce something that was at the very least consistently creepy with some great scares but no, it was actually not even on par with his Masters of Horror episodes, which is saying something. I just felt so let down after watching it.

Yeah, he's just a bored old man these days.
I hope it has a synth score at least.

Sucks this movie gets horrible reviews everywhere. On a lighter note, John Carpentner's In the Mouth of Madness is a pretty awesome film!

In the Mouth of Madness would have been considered a minor classic if he'd made it in the early 80s, but because he made it later in his career it gets lumped in unfairly with his weaker movies.

Unfortunately yes, its just so 'meh', the ending and 'twist' you could see if you were Stevie Wonder.

I enjoyed the film for sure. It was shot classic elegant Carpenter style. I loved the set design and wardrobe. It really captured the 60s. The acting was good and the music set the mood perfect.
