With ‘There Will Be Blood’ Paul Thomas Anderson confirmed his status as one of the most talented directors around.  The critics of The Times, in either hasty delirium or in a bid to be provocative, even went as far to hail it as the second best film of all time, bettered only by ‘Casablanca’. Whatever their intentions in listing it so highly, I am quite certain they feel a bit silly about it now. Nevertheless, the quality of 'There Will Be Blood' is undeniable. To witness the film’s wordless opening is to see a scene composed by a filmmaker with complete understanding of his medium.

Anderson hasn’t made a film since that was released in 2007, but momentum is beginning to build on his next project- unnamed at the moment but formerly titled ‘The Master’. Since financing was secured thanks to billionaire Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures, several big names have signed on to star in the film and now Amy Adams has just joined the cast which already includes Philip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix and Laura Dern.

Loosely based on the establishment of Scientology, the script follows a charismatic intellectual Lancaster Dodd (Hoffman) who, after witnessing the horrors of WWII, creates a belief system designed to catch on with other lost souls in post-war America.
Adams will play Dodd’s wife, a role that was previously been offered to Reese Witherspoon when the film was set to begin filming last year.

Shooting is set to begin on June 13th so expect the film to be released in 2012.
