One of the things that sets director Quentin Tarantino apart from many of his contempories is his audacity to make offbeat and sometimes visionary casting decisions. Think choosing John Travolta to play Vince Vega in 'Pulp Fiction' at a time when his star power had diminished so much he probably couldn't even get into Mcdonalds without booking a table in advance. Now Tarantino is rumoured to be interested in casting none other than blue-eyed heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio as a sadistic slaver in 'Django Unchained', the director's upcoming western.

'Django Unchained' is the story of a vengeful, liberated slave who teams up with a German bounty hunter to bring a ruthless plantation owner to bloody justice and reclaim his wife.  Dicaprio is in early talks to play the role of Calvin Candie, plantation owner and rape enthusiast who also enjoys forcing his slaves to fight to the death. Sure, casting DiCaprio is not really a risk for Tarantino given that he is one of the biggest movie stars in the world at the moment, but casting him as a bad guy is intriguing nonetheless. DiCaprio is certainly not a one-dimensional actor but he has never played an out and out bad guy before.

Will Smith had originally been favourite to play the title role however that is reportedly an increasingly unlikely possibility. Now other names have been thrown into the mix such as Jamie Foxx, Chris Tucker and Idris Elba. My pick would definitely be Elba. As for the role of the German bounty hunter, well that is almost certain to be played by Christopher Waltz, the actor who Tarantino unleashed on the world with 'Inglourious Basterds'.

Are you a Tarantino fan? Would DiCaprio make a good baddie? Who should play Django? So many questions, so little time!
