OK so i was talking about film with some mates this week and it dawned on me that there are a lot fo films that we have all seen and love but some that for different reasons we all have just missed, so because of that and to complement the 'Movies You Watched This Week' thread i thought I'd start this up.

So basically, put in here any film, old or recent that you haven't seen that you just can't believe you haven't seen and should really know better.

Right then, I'll kick off with this:

Star Trek yes the JJ reboot, i was never a massive fan of the originals but this had all the elements to make it a must see, especially at the cinema. The CG had finally become good enough to realise the potential and it had a solid cast with a the young Pine not only looking like a genetically improved Shatner but he had mean and moody down pat in the trailer. But somehow, when i got round to going to the cinema it had come and gone! gutted but what do you guys think, should i have seen it, should i catch it now on DVD or wasn't it that much cop?

And of course, what are your should've seen movies?

Definitely see it, I think it's great! There are an obscene amount of movies I feel like I should've seen that I haven't...two that spring to mind are Never Let Me Go and The Kids Are All Right, but there are  a crazy amount of classics too:

The Star Trek reboot is very good. It kinda runs out of steam in the last 15 minutes as it becomes more like an average, er, Star Trek movie. And finding Spock randomly in a cave is wack.

There are tons I haven't seen. Most animations, from Ghost In The Shell to Akira. Almost all musicals, except Chicago. The Notebook. The Hurt Locker. Facility 31.

Its crazy how many classics and recent films i just haven't seen, i almost feel ashamed.

Others is Michael Clayton and Thanks For Smoking, two i really should see.

You have to see The Hurt Locker, not brilliant and some cringy moments but overall, really well directed and acted. Haha as for Facility 31 that's just plain unmissable!

OK guys, watch The Hurt Locker and TYFS immediately. Michael Clayton's okay, I liked Duplicity more.

Michael Clayton has an absolutely stunning opening and never quite lives up to the first five minutes, but it's much better than the boring title suggests.  Hurt Locker was, for me, quite literally jaw-dropping. Love it.

For me:  Seven Samurai, Straw Dogs, The Wild Bunch, The Man with No Name Trilogy

Straw Dogs is great. Nerd fights back. Proper filmmaking. Dustin Hoffman when he was unmissable. Set in England.

Totally agree on Straw Dogs what a film and Hoffman at the height of his powers definitely.

The Dollars trilogy is, for, my favourite trilogy of all time, i know thats likely to get me laughed out of most forums but I'll stand by it  Smiley

Seven Samurai was the film that actually inspired me to take up martial arts, if i can make one scene that comes even close to the final showdown I'll die a happy bloke, out of all you have mentioned dalmatianjaws, this would be the one to watch first in my humble opinion.

Haven't seen Straw Dogs or The Wild Bunch either, but Dollars and Seven Samurai are unmissable.

Even if you're not a big fan of westerns the Wld Bunch is just a great story beautifully told and shot.

I've never seen Citizen Kane all the way through properly, just bits when its been on telly late

Citizen Kane totally deserves its status as the best film ever made, although I personally think the likes of Gone With The Wind and The Wizard Of Oz should have a claim as they were both made before. The fact that we always think they were shot after Kane speaks volumes. Anyway the way Kane is filmed is extraordinary, inventing techniques left and right that are common practice today, almost every shot has enormous thought and depth put into it. Also incredible is Welles' performance. He portrays Kane from young man to elderly man amazingly, at every stage of his life, and the dude was 24 or something. And he was directing at the same time.
