Park Chan-Wook's Oldboy, the Korean revenge flick based on the best-selling manga is getting the Hollywood remake treatment from director Spike Lee.

For a little while it looked as though the remake would be coming to us from tinsel-town juggernauts Steven Spielberg and Will Smith, but Spike Lee has now been confirmed as the director. Whether or not Will Smith is still being looked at to star remains to be seen, you'd have to assume he would be, seeing as how the man is considered FOR EVERYTHING, but if his lack of participation in Tarantino's upcoming Django Unchained can be seen as indicative of anything, it may be that Smith is disinterested in starring in violent adult fare at present.

Here's the trailer for the original:

How do you feel about the remake and choice of director?

Normally I rant against needless remakes, but I think he's the perfect choice. He is after all the man who directed this masterpiece:

All the subtly of Tyler Perry, all the arrogance of M. Night Shyamalan.
