The Keanu Reeves starring, Fast & Furious inspiring cult classic movie Point Break is scheduled for the remake treatment. The original movie was directed by Oscar-winning director of The Hurt Locker Kathryn Bigelow, and followed Reeves' undercover cop infiltrating Patrick Swayze's surf gang, who robbed banks when they weren't catching waves.
The update is set to to incorporate "international extreme sports" (presumably still exclusively surfing), and while there isn't a director currently attached, the new script is coming courtesy of salt writer Kurt Wimmer. On the whole this seems like Yet Another Pointless Remake - what do you think they could do to make this worthwhile and relevant and cool? 3D surfing scenes? Shaky-cam surf scenes? 3D shaky-cam surf scenes?
In other news, they're rebooting the Highlander franchise, with 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo at the helm. Those familiar with the original should recognize quite a bit of the new setup:
In HIGHLANDER, after centuries of dueling to survive against others like him, Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish swordsman must confront the last of his kind, a murderously brutal barbarian, who lusts for the Prize
Which of the two projects are you most excited for/angry about? THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE!
