When Galifinakis does it there's no ambush. Assuming this isn't set up, the guy is kind of an ass.

Interviewer has said that Zach was not in on it. Which makes the whole thing genius as far as I'm concerned. I actually found his questions and follow ups funnier than Between Two Ferns.

Funny for him, incredibly rude to the interviewee.  I've befriended a few comics since living in LA and it's been really interesting getting to see  how that world works because it's really a very specific subculture. Hecklers, which is essentially what this interviewer is, are complete assholes. The fact that he'd ambush Galifinakis betrays his ignorance to how things work. That dick persona from Between to Ferns is an act and the entire thing is prepped and planned, there is no trickery therefore there is no reason to put him in his place, etc. All the interviewer had to do was say "hey, do you mind if we play it this way" and there's a good chance Galifinakis would go along with it. He was "on" for the interview, so why not?
