Lockout comes to us from French uber-producer Luc Besson and has been described as 'Taken in space', hopefully recreating the thrills of that Liam Neeson action vehicle, but with all the bells and whistles of a sci-fi piece. It features Guy Pearce on a mission to save the presidents daughter from space prison in space. The trailer has been unveiled, so take a look!

Quite a nice introduction to the character and a good introduction to the thrills and spills we can expect from the movie. What do you think? Are you excited for Taken in space? Lockout co-stars Maggie Grace of Lost fame and Peter Stormare of Prison Break fame, and will be released early 2012.

A number of people on YouTube seem to think it's Brad Pitt getting punched.

That he resembles Brad Pitt. And he kinda does a little here.

With the way his character is it's even more of Snake Plissken 'Escape From Earth' rip-off than I expected. (That's the unproduced sequel that was knocking around for ages - compare plot synopsis)

Still, looks good. Great to see this actor in that role.

I didn't like Escape From New York...I watched The Warriors recently and liked that quite a it, and it did have a similar vibe, so maybe it's worth a revisit. I never saw Escape from LA, but that's seldom talked about, I imagine for good reason.

I don't think Escape From New York is very good, I found it dull when I first saw it 15 years ago and it plays the same now. It is a good scenario though, and a good lead character. Execution is fudged. Escape From LA is, frankly, crap, but a reboot of that franchise could be worth seeing. Escape From Earth was meant to be the third movie and basically you're watching a trailer for it. Same story, same lead character.

Same here. I WANT to love Escape from NY, and I don't hate it ... but it's SO. SLOW.

Escape from LA is horrible but I find it enduring for two reasons.

First, there was an AWESOME teaser trailer for it. You were sitting in the theater and this add came up, simulating those messages from theater chains about being quiet during the movie, etc. Except it started saying things like: "No red meat. No practicing of religion" etc. Then Snake Plisskin steps out with a gun and says, "You know ... your rules ... are really starting to annoy me."  Chaos ensued. It was awesome.

Second, there's this great moment when, as you're walking to be put in L.A., you have the option to be electrocuted to death instead. When I saw that as a young film buff I hadn't seen anything like it and was blown away.

But then came the tidal wave surfing through Disneyland.

You heard me.

Glad it's not just me. What's the second point?

Also saw Warriors for the first time recently, liked it quite a bit. Very unique movie, based on on a great idea. Loved how the gangs are done. Really influenced Grand Theft Auto and Saints Row.
