The nominees for the 2012 Academy Award have been announced - are your favorites among the nominees?
The Artist and Hugo lead with nominations in 10 categories for The Artist and 11 for Hugo. Both films are films about films, the history of cinema, and Hollywood's heritage and legacy - I think it's fair to say that they'll win A LOT of the awards they're nominated for. Gary Oldman had Oscar buss for Best Actor before anyone even got a peek at Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, so it's no surprise to see him on the list of nominees for his portrayal of George Smiley - many consider it a crime that Oldman hasn't won an Oscar in the past - but at this stage most of that buzz seems to have transferred to The Artist's Jean Dujardin, who gave a remarkable performance and faced a rare acting challenge in his role as the stubborn entertainer George Valentin. George Clooney also received a nod for The Descendants...which George is your money on?
Despite our
authoritative review slating the movie, Stevn Spielberg's War Horse is among the Best PIcture nominees too, as is the
generally panned Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close, while critical darling and Cannes favorite Drive has been overlooked. There was no love for the Andy Serkis mo-cap performance as Caesar in Rise of the Planet of the Apes either (a good thing as far as I'm concerned, because he deserves that Oscar for Gollum! Wise up Academy!) Take a look at the full list below and let us know what you think.
