I'm still in shock over actor Heath Ledger's sudden death yesterday. Within the last few months I'd begin to champion his work after having seen him repeatedly turning in amazing performances in such films as
Brokeback Mountain and
Candy. The latter of which had been an underappreciated little Australian film about drug addicts but now has more grave connotations with all the speculation on Ledger's own possible drug taking. I was especially looking forward to his work as "The Joker" in the upcoming
The Dark Knight. Just from the trailer it looks like he really hit it out of the park and would've been launched into superstardom based on it. Comparisons to Brandon Lee's death (All the more a tragedy since his accidental death was through no fault of his own) while filming
The Crow cannot be overlooked.
However unlike
The Crow it appears that Ledger had completed his work on
The Dark Knight, which is now in post-production and won't require any sort of CGI-type as was done to complete Lee's film. However there are questions regarding the status of the next film he was to star in which would've been Terry Gilliam's
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus .
Sadly it looks like it wasn't The Joker who got the last laugh in this tragedy. It was Fate that did.
REST IN PEACE, HEATH LEDGER.
