This year’s WonderCon saw the release of a 5-minute clip from upcoming Sci-fi/Action movie Lockout, starring Guy Pearce and Maggie Grace.
Lockout follows a wrongly convicted man (Pearce) who is guaranteed his freedom *IF* he can rescue the President’s daughter (Grace) from a floating space prison overrun by inmates…
Written by action movie royalty Luc Besson (The Transporter, Taken, Leon), it looks on paper to be a great action throwback with all the elements in place for it to be a thrilling ride. Besson takes a backseat on this one, with feature first-timers James Mather and Stephen St. Ledger directing.
http://uk.ign.com/videos/2012/03/17/lockout-wondercon-exclusive-clipWith Guy Pearce crawling around in vents, it’s hard not to draw comparisons to Die Hard (Die Hard: In Space! was probably the pitch). But if these 5 minutes are anything to go by, it looks like Lockout will ride a fine line between being a genuinely exciting action film and just horrifically cliché-ridden. It begins with Pearce engaged in some zero-gravity grappling with an inmate, while being barked instructions via radio (“No time to hang around.” Ugh.). He is racing to get to the room where Maggie Grace is being held – and where a string of bad guys are trying to get in…
It looks like something you would watch while sat crossing off a list of action movies it pays homage to. Possibly no bad thing in the grand scheme of things, particularly from someone with such a massive action pedigree as Luc Besson. I do love a good action movie and, potentially, this doesn’t look bad…
What do you think of the footage?
Lockout will be released on April 13th (April 20th in the UK).
