Sony Pictures Animation are teaming up with Hasbro to bring an animated Tonka Trucks movie to our screens. Hasbro has already successfully brought Transformers and Battleship to our screens, and in addition to Tonka Trucks live action versions of the world-conquering challenge Risk and what they're calling Lord of the Rings with confectionary, Candy Land are on the way.
It'll be interesting to see how this movie takes shape. Presumably it'll be a rival to Pixar's lucrative Cars franchise, which is already getting to direct-to-DVD sequels and enjoyed financial success despite a lukewarm critical reception. We're well past being in complete disbelief that toys without stories are being made into movies now, but what kind of story do you think they'll use the brand for? Battleship got it's aliens, could we be seeing trucks and ghosts maybe? Or just plain old Bob the Builder style construction work. Feverish speculation is sure to ensue in the coming months.
