Why is Emma Stone on the red carpet describing her love story as "tragic and heartbreaking"? Er...

...because everyone knows Gwen Stacy and her father die due to Spider-Man villains killing them at some stage? That is her whole deal. She's probably thinking big picture, I expect the romance to be pretty rote in this movie.

I knew she dies in the comics, it sounded to me like she was referring to this movie rather than long term. We'll see...

Didn't know her dad died in the comics. Probably a good thing as his humorous lines in the promos suck.

Yeah, the death of the Stacys is a big deal, Captain Stacy is killed by Doctor Octopus, Gwen by Green Goblin.

Ultimate Version -

In the Ultimate universe, this version of George is much younger than his mainstream counterpart as he does not have white hair, but brown hair. He is also much athletic and carries his own gun. In this version he is not a fan of Spider-Man, but admired his vigilante work. He has trouble handling his teenage daughter, Gwen, and his marriage problems.

He was killed by the Ultimate version of the Chameleon, dressed up as Spider-Man (during the "Public Scrutiny" arc), when he robbed an armored truck and threw a bag with a bomb in it onto a nearby child. George sacrifices his life; this saves the endangered child.

His death caused a stricken Gwen to have develop a deep hatred for Spider-Man, even when the man who killed her father confessed for his crimes. This eventually led for Gwen to have been offered by May and Peter to live with them.

The start sounds like a match with the movie. I wonder if he'll be offed first.

Probably. His death being Spidey's fault (sort of) makes for it being tragic without taking out Gwen early in the game. But then, they have to kill Peter's parents and Uncle Ben...that's a lot of death if you add Cap Stacy to that.

I'd love it if Spider-Man killed him just because he wanted to.

Would make a refreshing change.
