2001: a space oddyssey ... if it was made today

Thanks to Film School Rejects for this quite brilliant re-edit of the 2001: a space odyssey trailer.



It's amazing to see how accurate the trailer is at interpreting the story but completely misses the tone. It also highlights how repetitive modern trailers have become and how they rely on fast editing and driving music to cover up the fact they give you every single plot point.

This makes very little sense to me. 2001 is not the equivalent of a modern popcorn flick, so there isn't much of  point to be made by presenting an edit like this. It's relatively rare that things are marketed completely incorrectly nowadays as far as I'm concerned, and if a film like 2001 were to be made today it'd obviously have more sedate promos so that people knew what they were in for. That said, this springs to mind as an example of doing it wrong:

It's a great recut trailer. I guess they just wanted to show how a classic can be recut to look action packed, and how meaningless the quick shot trailers are.

The Road trailer was SO influenced by I Am Legend.
