Wall-E may look like something thrown together from Johnny 5's offcuts and an Extra Large pair of peepers from the Cute Disney Eyes Bag (it exists), but as snippets of animation come to light beyond the somewhat portentious first trailer, it's easy to see that he's loveable for more than his expressive features.
Pixar seem to have got lost with their past few films. A flabby script let down the otherwise gorgeous, coppery Ratatouille, and Cars barely made any sense at all. Even The Incredibles, helmed by the very much incredible Brad Bird, seemed to try too hard.
But here's Wall-E, doing his little thing. He's a beautiful little character, right down to the spindly, baby-monkey arms. And isn't there just a whiff of the inquisitive Luxor Jnr, the animated anglepoise lamp which kicked off Pixar's career an age ago?
If they're going back to their roots, I'm happy to go with them.
