Is nothing certain and sacred anymore?
Warner Brothers have been in production on
Watchmen so long that things are actually getting exciting - and, er, getting in the can - but someone just pinched Fox, because they've woken up and slapped Warner with a lawsuit stating that they alone have the rights to make a film of the phenomenal cult graphic novel.
You'd think they might have pulled the plug once Warner had attached a director (Zack Snyder, a man who understands how best to transfer comics to the big screen and could probably give you a decent rundown of Ancient Greek history while he's at it). Or when the leads had been cast. Or when the project was announced.
Is this some kind of new sabotage to wrong-foot productions from other studios? Or did they just find a contract stained with a Rorschach coffee blot that says 'Watchmen iz mine'?
We can hope that this blows over; with the release date set for 2009 and the productions stills looking awesome, there might be an eruption of Comic Book Guy proportions if this causes more delay.
