The ensemble thriller
Vantage Point opened at the top of the heap this weekend with 24m in estimated gross. While it certainly doesn't look to be any
Run Lola Run or
Hero, the movie does look to be a nice break from the winter romcoms and
Jumper.
The Jack Black comedy
Be Kind, Rewind opened with a decent 4.1m, given the limited number of theaters showing it. When the movie comes out for purchase, it will be the first in years to be released exclusively on VHS. Not really.
The comedies
Witless Protection and
Charlie Bartlett both performed well below what the studios hoped for, earning 2.1m and 1.8m, respectively. Hopefully the reception of the Larry the Cable Guy vehicle will finally show producers that good comedy is not dependent on number of fart jokes.
