For all you horror fiends who like their grue with more than a dash of Sci-Fi then heads up, chest out and join up 'cos Starship Troopers: Marauder is coming soon to DVD. Casper Van Dien returns as Johnny Rico who is now a General leading the fight against the bugs. Scripter Edward Neumeier (Starship Troopers and Starship Troopers 2) is behind the camera for his directorial debut. After the dire 1st sequel this actually looks like a return to the fun of the original.

Why even try to do this sort of film low budget? TwistedMango don't get your hopes up. I saw footage from the first movie cut into the trailer here, never a good sign.
Poor Johnny Rico had to come back. Should have been a star.

Yikes! Casper Van Dien looks old now! I always thought he was a bit annoying myself so seeing him get dissected in Sleepy Hollow was way satisfying. The original is a classic film (though I never understood how they could never save Dina Meyer from being stabbed in the shoulder when they could for Johnny Rico in the leg - BS!) but the second one was SO bad! There was never any moments where you saw the bugs kill people and to me, it seemed like a thinly-veiled disguise as a Channel 5 soft porn film. It seems this film will *probably* be better, but, i watch this trailer and it screams "STRAIGHT-TO-DVD" at me... Am I wrong TwistedMango??

No you're not wrong mate, this will be a DTD flick. I think the optimism i have for it is that even if it's re-using some of the bug footage form the 1st movie and re-treading with the cheesy faux-ads then they are at least nicking the stuff that made the original fun in the first place, it looks like they're trying which is a hellava lot more than they did with the 2nd movie.

This film will *definitely* be better than the 2nd piece of monkey-sh*t in the trilogy! It's got Johnny Rico in it for crying out loud!

That doesn't look too bad. I wonder if Brenda Strong will return again (only to get killed for a third time)?
Though the first movie was better, I'm probably the only one that enjoyed the second movie.

Did Brenda Strong get killed in both movies? That's brilliant.

Yep, Brenda Strong (aka the Braless Wonder) appeared in both Starship Trooper movies playing different characters. In the first one she was Deneise Richards commanding officer who got crushed to death by one of the ships door as everyone was trying to escape from the spaceship. In the second movie she played another commanding officer who got controlled by some kind of brain bug (along with most of the other troopers) only to eventually break free form her controll and then make a noble sacrifce (though I can't remember the exact details).

Was there big demand for her to come back in Starship Troopers 2? Was she cast because she already had a uniform that fitted? That's absolute madness.
"...Madness?"

That's the funniest thing I heard all day. They tried to link the second film back to the first one (in one of really very few links to the original) by casting a bit-part twice - almost as good as the character name "Charlie Soda" (a girl nonetheless)...

I have no clue as to why Brenda Strong came back for the second movie. But apparently I heard that Clancy Brown was supposed to be in the second movie but couldn't do it because he was busy doing something else.

While my expectations for Starship Troopers 3 shouldn't be very high just by the nature of the movie, I'm definitely more excited to see this one than the second movie.

OK I own the original and was mortified by the second one. This one is missing one big thing. NPH. That's right I said it they need Neil Patrick Harris. However this telling looks to be bringing back some of the original shtick which is good and dare I say has feel to it that I would call a combo of the original and Tremors. Fun campy cheese all the way. This could be bad movie making done write. That would mean while this will be horrendous it will be sure to entertain.

I absolutely loved the 2nd movie. Can you guys explain why you hated it? Because it was a Direct To Video movie, they didn't have the big budget like the first movie. So, they told the story from a group of soldiers that got overrun and hid out in a bunker. I liked the brain bugs. It is a new concept and one they played on well. I am just curious as to why people hated it so much. I am really looking forward to SST 3. Its already on my netflix queue. I will def write a quick review of it when it gets shipped out.

I didn't like it because it seemed like typical straight-to-TV/DVD movie tactic of bringing softcore porn into the movie. And the fact that the instead of having the bugs (the real star of the first film) graphically kill anyone, they saved money on the budget using a brain-bug gimmick that turned it into a run-of-the-mill everyone-kills-everyone kind of film. But to each his own!
