There are a lot of comedies like this that have a funny premise and funny characters, but the directing and writing are always weak, and funny parts seem to go on too long until they're not funny anymore. I found myself feeling like that with a lot of recent Will Ferrell movies. I haven't seen this movie and really don't plan on it.

I tend to like a lot more 80s comedies better than nowadays. I guess it was because they weren't as afraid to be cheesy and over the top. Movies like this, you can tell, are also trying to be that absurdist, but they fail because they become too plot-driven.

Semi-Pro is only semi funny and it feels like Will Ferrell needs to pick the ball back up and start a new game to keep our attention.
