Anthony Minghella, the British Oscar-winning director of modern-day classics such as "The English Patient", "Truly, Madly, Deeply", "Cold Mountain" and one of my favourite films of all-time - "The Talented Mr. Ripley", has died at the age of 54 due to complications during a surgery that involved removing a tumor from his neck and tonsils. He leaves behind his wife Carolyn Chao, actor son Max (22) and daughter Edana - all of whom are involved in the film industry that Minghella was so prolific in.

Although I cannot claim to know much about Minghella having never watched the former entries on this list (and shame on me for doing so) but everyone knows who Minghella was and the type of films he was responsible for considering the amount of critical and public acclaim his films are attested to, in particular, The English Patient which will last as a bonafide classic throughout the ages. We here at Movie Moron are very sad to hear about the loss of such a truly great British director and our condolences are with his family and friends.
