The Warriors:  This is a classic flick.  The original works because of the time it was made.  Today it just does not work the same way.  The only way to get it to work is to have it set in a different time and place.  Whether it is the past or the future.

Meatballs:  Do I really need to even address why this is a bad idea.  This is classic flick that should never be touched.

Howard Stern’s Porky's: See Meatballs.  This one actually made me twitch for a good five minutes before I could see straight again.

1984:  How do improve upon perfection?  You don't.

Footloose:  I loved this flick as a kid.  As an adult I would like to kick my younger self in the head.  Might as well remake Dirty Dancing while you're at it.

Logan’s Run:  I like this one.  This movie could use an update on special effects but for it to work you have to get good actors and pay attention to your story telling.  I could see Ewan McGregor or Christian Bale taking over the Michael York role.

Death Wish:  As if Stallone did not have enough franchises under his belt he decides to rip one off from Charles Bronson.  Yes that is who is set to star in this.  There is no possible way for this flick to be good.  Just take a look at the last Rambo movie.

Akira: Live action Akira?

Really this is what you want to go with?

A lot of people cut their teeth in anime with this flick because it is so masterfully done.  The problem with trying to take a story like this to the big screen is the risk that the CGI will overshadow any piece of story telling.

The Dirty Dozen:  Lee Marvin.  Do I really need to say anything else?  I didn't think so.

In case you think I need to say more then let me add Telly Savalas,  Charles Bronson, George Kennedy, Ernest Borgnine and Donald Sutherland.  You can't match this cast.  There is no ensemble cast that they can put together that will be equal to the original.

The Last Starfighter:  I have no idea what in the world makes anyone think they make this just as good or better than the original.  This was a pioneering movie in the use of CGI.  I have loved this movie since I was a kid and saw it at "The Starlite Drive In" More then 20 years ago.  I just keep twitching when I think about this one.

What do you think and what others make you twitch?  How about the ones that you want to see?

My attitude towards remakes is different to most - I don't mind them at all. Stephen King was once asked if he got upset when one of his books was turned into a mediocre film, he said "Why should I?" and pointed at the shelf, "My book's still there".

All remakes are fine with me. The only thing I'm bothered is if they waste the potential of the remake. eg The Fog remake could have been a truly chilling film, but they were completely lazy about it.

I'm a huge fan of The Thing, and excited about it being remade. My only fear is that potential will be wasted.

For me, there are a lot of films on this list that have not stood up well to the test of time. They feel horribly dated where something like, say, Star Wars or The Shining does not. I have no issue with any of them being redone.

I am tired of re-makes. I don't think any movie should re-made and everyone should come up with an original idea. We should be able to make it through one year without seeing a re-make. Especially if they're classics. Like The Warriors and Meatballs should never be re-made.
Anime should not be made into live action.

A lot of remakes leave me saying, "why?", but if they're good, then I try to forget the fact that they're remakes (such as The Thing or Invasion of the Body Snatchers).  I'll tell you though, I'd love to see a remake of the first Mad Max movie.  Supposedly that's what Miller is doing with the tentatively titled "Fury Road".  But I've always been so curious to see what a big budget, high resource Mad Max movie could be like.

One of the most annoying things about remakes for me are the ones that are J-horror remakes.  Now, I have nothing against J-horror (love it actually), nor do I have anything against remaking a movie.  But it seems almost without fail that every J-horror remake for Western audiences has left out the most important thing in the original films, and that is atmosphere.

There are few really good re-makes. I could care less on the budget of a film as long as you have a good director and story behind it.

The problem I have with remakes is that Hollywood typically speaking is not about the art of film but instead is about the box office.  Typically speaking a remake comes about because they see money to be made in rehashing an old flick.  If it was about the art of film you rarely would see remakes.  The ten I listed here are all scheduled to be out within the next years and there are at least 20 more that studios are trying to fit in the pipe.

I heard they're re-making Adventures in Babysitting and for the lead role they're going to bring in Raven-Symone. Movies like that should not be re-made.

That is disturbing on so many levels.

I'm with Sheridan on re-makes ... although, at times, I scratch my head and wonder "why?"

Take for instance, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This film was forbidden to me growing up and I didn't watch it til ... well ... less than a month ago. Part of the reason I waited so long was because I had to shut off the remake within 20 minutes, it was so aweful. But little did I know how incredible the original was. And I'm not talking "incredible for the time it was made" I mean "incredible for all time."

John Carpenter's The Thing is an almost perfect horror movie. I don't know how to make it better. But that ITSELF was a remake of a sci-fi classic that, to be honest, was never that great. Havn't read the book though.

1984 needs a good movie adaptation ... although the dystopia genre is so worn out by this point it would be boring to most of the modern audience I think.

I think it all depends on can they make it better (Battlestar Galactica)  or can they make it awesomely different (The Thing). Remakes, like every other film, need to come from artistic vision and passion, not a yearly studio budget.

With remakes it's hit or miss. Case in point: THE WAR OF THE WORLDS
Did anyone ever see the original from the 50's? It won a freakin Oscar for Special Effects but the movie sucked! Acting: bad...Script: bad. Even though I wasn't even a thought in my parents' infant minds in 1953, I a sure I would have hated it if I was alive and wearing a poodle skirt!
Now, that was a remake of the novel by H.G. Wells told over the radio by none other than Orson Welles, which I have heard and is a great story!
Fast forward to 2005: WAR OF THE WORLDS w/ Tom Cruise and cutey patuty Dakota Fanning...throw in Steven Speilberg and you've got yourself one hell of a blockbuster...I was hesitant to see it at first because of my bad experience with the original. But this was far more interesting and less over-acted than the 50's version (except for maybe Fanning's incessant screaming throughout the entire film...kinda annoying).
Now, an old sci-fi film that I am psyched is coming out later this year: THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL!!
This is a GREAT story that was well acted and (I felt) the special effects were equal in quality to those in the original WORLDS...and it came out 2 years before WORLDS (1951) I feel that film was waaay advanced for its time and NOW I hope the remake will peak the interests of a new generation of audiences.

Completely agree on War Of The Worlds.

The Day The Earth Stood Still has really made the job difficult for itself by casting Keanu Reeves. Keanu Reeves + thoughtful, do not go together well.

The early buzz on the EARTH STOOD STILL remake is that it's action heavy and lost most of the social commentary ... leaving them with the highly intricate plot ... ugh. Idiots.
