TV Shows Getting the Axe, Maybe They’ll Get a Movie

Call it collateral damage from the Writer’s Strike, almost every new TV Show this season is getting the boot.  On the chopping block, newbies like Cashmere Mafia and Big Shots (ABC) and Moonlight (CBS), familiar faces like NBC’s Las Vegas and UPN’s Girlfriends, and once-saved already CBS’ Jericho.

In all, about 39 shows, some unfairly, are headed for the garbage heap. That’s unless someone steps in and saves them. There are rumbles Moonlight could get a reprieve from TNT (let’s hope). While that’s too soon to call, there’s something to be said about the power of TV. Just look at the buzz building around “Sex and the City.” The show ended four years ago, but is now bigger than ever thanks to reruns. If the movie proves to be the powerhouse analysts are expecting, maybe another small screen favorite could get a second chance to make a first impression.

The good news, Heros (NBC) is coming back. Hey, there's an idea for a movie.

The only show out of all of those mentioned that seemed to pick up any type of viewership buzz was Jericho, which escaped being casnceled altogether once due to fan outcry. It seems to be in the same boat Firefly was in before being turned into the movie Serenity and I would not be surprised if a film was developed. However, I would likewise not be surprised if one was not, probably a 90-10 chance one will not.

Nothing I watch regularly on there. BSG is already ending anyway.

I am a little surprised to see Las Vegas get the axe, though. I thought that had a large enough viewer base. Oh well, I won't really miss it.

Yes, I'm ALIVE! Smiley

As far as the axed TV shows go, there's none here that I'm going to miss. I never watched Jericho either.

Speaking of excellent TV shows to become movies...

I really loved the show Jericho. I am sorry that it got cancelled, and deep down, I blame the writers strike for it.
I hope that sci-fi picks it up.  Jericho was one of the shows that were unique and original. SOmething that you just don't see on tv anymore. It had a great plot, great character development and was very entertaining.
A couiple of other shows that got the axe about ayear ago which I thought were great tv was Journeyman and DayBreak.
