Seth Rogen may not be the first guy that springs to mind when you think "superhero," but with Sony Pictures' announcement that the teddy bear-ish actor has been cast in the lead role of The Green Hornet, that may soon change. Originally created as a radio serial in the 30s, The Green Hornet is the story of playboy newspaper publisher Britt Reid, who by night dons a costume and fights crime with the help if his faithful sidekick, Kato. In addition to starring, Rogen has also been tapped to pen the screenplay for the film with the help of his Superbad writing partner, Evan Goldberg. The film has been kicking around Hollywood for years, and the last I had heard about it, Kevin Smith was in talks to write and direct. But when Smith opted out, the film was put back on the shelf. With this bit of casting, the producers look to be keeping the more comedic tone that Smith ostensibly would have taken with the material. The Green Hornet is tentatively scheduled to hit theaters in Summer 2010.
